Born to parents from Pakistan and Kenya, Akhtar spent his childhood in London. He attended Cheltenham College Junior School from 1991–1994, and then Cheltenham College at Newick House from 1994–1999 for his formal education. His first degree was in law from Oxford Brookes University, but he changed his major to acting after deciding to follow his heart and enrolled in acting classes at Pace University’s Actors Studio Drama School and went on to continue in The New School which is situated in New York.

Adeel Akhtar is a talented actor known for both comedic and dramatic roles. He gained recognition for his role as Faisal in the film Four Lions and has also appeared in The Angelos Epithemiou Show, The Dictator, and Pan. The group plans a terrorist attack at the London Marathon using concealed bombs. A member has a change of heart and tries to stop the attack, but chaos ensues, leading to multiple casualties. In the end, the police arrest innocent people, deflect blame, and a member unknowingly kills Osama bin Laden.

Directed by Chris Morris, the film which stars Adeel Akhtar, Riz Ahmed made £6 million globally and was well-received by critics for its screenplay, direction, themes, humor, and acting.
